How to crochet heart pouch (2 sizes) USING granny squares
Hello! This written pattern is to accompany my youtube tutorial and I would recommend that you watch the tutorial while keeping this pattern beside you to make the crocheting process easier. Have fun and happy crocheting!
✿ Notes
‣ This pattern uses US terminology.
‣ Number of stitches indicated between <xx>
‣ Weave in any excess yarn
‣ If the number comes before the stitch name meaning you’ll have to insert that number into the same stitch.
Example: 2 tc - you have to insert 2 tc into the same stitch
If the number comes after the stitch name you’ll have to make 1 stitch into each stitch until you have the total of that stitch number.
Example: dc x 4 means that you have to insert 1 dc into the next 4 stitches.
✿ Materials I used
1. 5 ply yarn
- you can play around with colours here! Choose any colours for each parts/pieces
2. 4mm crochet hook
3. Darning needle
4. Scissors
5. Stitch marker
✿ Stitches & Abbreviation
Ch: Chain
St(s): Stitches
Sc: Single crochet
Dc: Double crochet
Tc: Treble crochet
Qtr: Quadruple treble crochet
(xx, xx): Insert the 2 stitches into the same stitch. This is only if you need to make 2 different type of stitch in the same stitch.
Example: (dc, hdc) means you will insert 1 dc and 1 hdc into the same stitch.
Dec: Decrease
Inc: Increase
Sl st: Slip stitch
✿ Cute heart pouch (2 sizes) ✿
The pattern will be divided in 3 parts (heart, size 1 & size 2). Size 1 will make the smaller heart pouch and size 2 will make the big heart pouch. I would recommend the small heart pouch for airpods or small trinkets meanwhile for the big heart pouch I would recommend storing make-up or any essentials for on the go.
You will make the heart first then you can decide whether to make size 1 or size 2. The heart pattern is the same for both sizes.
Heart
♥︎ I use pink yarn for the heart piece.
Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 3. Then, insert 12 dc. Sl st into the first dc.
Round 2: In the first st, in the 2nd st insert 8 tc, dc, (dc, hdc), 2 hdc, (hdc, dc) mark the dc with a stitch marker, (dc, hdc), 2 hdc, (hdc, dc), dc, 8 tc, sl st into the middle of the heart. <30>
Fasten off by chaining 1 and cut. Pull the end to back to tighten up the ch 1.
Square / border
Size 1:
♥︎ This will make the small heart pouch. I used a different colored yarn for the square / border.
Round 1: Attach your new yarn into the stitch that you marked. You will only attach new yarn if you’re using different colored yarn from the heart piece. Ch 1 and insert a sc into the same st, sc, hdc, dc, (dc, tc, qtr), (tc, dc), dc, (hdc, sc), sc, 2 sc, hdc, (hdc, dc, tc), (dc, hdc), hdc x 2, dc, tc, dc, hdc x 2, (hdc, dc), (tc, dc, hdc), hdc, 2 sc, sc, (sc, hdc), dc, (dc, tc), (qtr, tc, dc), dc, hdc, sl st
Round 2: Ch 1, insert 1 sc in the same st, sc x 5, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 11, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 5, ch 2 and skip, sc x 5, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 11, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 4, sl st
To fasten off ch 1 and cut. Make another heart granny square so you have 2 pieces for the front and back.
★ IMPORTANT
For the back piece the round 2 is going to be a little different. Instead of doing 2 chains, you’re going to chain how long you want your pouch strap to be. The rest of the patterns are going to be the same.
Join the two pieces together with a sl st while keeping the top open. For a detailed and video instruction this is the time stamp in the tutorial (27:49).
Size 2:
♥︎ This will make the big heart pouch.
Round 2: Ch 3 and insert 1 dc into the same st, dc x 5, (2 dc, tc, 2 dc), dc x 11, (2 dc, tc, 2 dc), dc x 11, (2 dc, tc, 2 dc), dc x 11, (2 dc, tc, 2 dc), dc x 4, sl st <63>
Round 3: Ch 1, insert 1 sc in the same st, sc x 7, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 15, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 15, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 15, (sc, hdc, sc), sc x 7, sl st
Join the two pieces together with a sl st while keeping the top open. For a detailed and video instruction this is the time stamp in the tutorial (27:49).
Now you will continue with the top part for this pouch:
Round 1 - 4: Ch 1 and insert 1 sc into the same st. Then, insert 1 sc in each st until the end, sl st. You need to make sure that you have a total of 40 stitches, This is really important to make holes for the strap.
Round 5: Ch 1 and insert 1 sc into the same st, (sc x 2, ch 2) x 10, sl st
Round 6: Ch 1 and insert 1 sc into the same st. Then, insert 1 sc in each st until the end, sl st. For the ch 2 spaces, make sc x 2 in the spaces since we skip 2 stitches.
Round 7 - 10: Ch 1 and insert 1 sc into the same st. Then, insert 1 sc in each st until the end, sl st.
For your information: I change my yarn colour on round 10 to make a border at the top. This is the time stamp on how to attach new yarn colour (36:21).
Ch 1 and fasten off.
For the bow you can use ribbons or make the strap with yarn. I explain how to make the strap at (37:28).
Once you’re done, insert the strap into the holes and you’re done!
Thank you for staying till the end! <3 I hope you had fun crocheting!!
